We’re a family business

We’re a family business. In fact, we’ve been around since 1970. Back then it was mostly buying and selling antiques, and a little later, whatever was becoming fashionable at the time… pine furniture.

From the earliest days, we’ve kept a careful balance between cost and quality, giving exceptional value for money and making delivery easy for the customer.

Time for a change…

The pine bandwagon got bigger and bigger, cheaper imports flooded in, and we were seeing the same furniture on every high street. Fashion dictates trends, and it was time to get reacquainted with what our customers really wanted… furniture they wouldn’t see in their neighbours’ homes.

At the turn of the century we moved away from pine and focused on hardwoods and leather… a combination of both. We knew what we wanted in timber quality. Ironically, so did our customers.

Distinctly different furniture…

Quality wood alone is not enough. More and more customers wanted furniture that was different… unique, even. So that’s where we focus: buying from smaller manufacturers wherever we can, who are prepared to create furniture with a look and feel that separates us from the crowd.

And because we’re not a huge conglomerate, we can do what we like. And we do just that! There’s no big group buying for 20 stores. That’s why we sell furniture that’s distinctly different.

These days, upholstery headlines! Fabulous, unique sofas and chairs, meticulously sourced from around the globe, all made to order. You choose the fabric, the frame, the fill and the exact dimensions. The same flexibility runs through our dining, beds and bedroom furniture too… with our friendly family team always on hand to guide you.

And along came Redditch…

In 2016 we acquired a property in Redditch with one job to do: stock holding and delivery hub. It came with an unused mezzanine level, which soon filled with clearance furniture. It started with the occasional weekend sale... the crowds were huge, our customers loved it!

Before long we were open two days every week selling clearance stock. Unique lines of made-to-order furniture followed. Then, in 2025, Whartons of Shirley closed and moved into the expanded Redditch store.

Today it’s 10,000 sq. ft. and double the size of the old Shirley store. Bustling with an eclectic mix of made-to-order and clearance furniture. It’s an extremely convenient drive too, with ample free parking right outside the door.

And after you’ve ordered…

At the point of ordering, we’ll give you a guide on when your furniture will be made and delivered. It’s rare that we see any slippage, we’re proud of our ability to hit dates. We keep our promises.

When delivery day is near, we’ll call to let you know so you can make arrangements, and we’re pretty accurate with our timing on that day too.

Customer care… yes, proper care!

We invest heavily in furniture delivery... Every one of the team is fully trained in handling customers as well as, sometimes, very heavy furniture. To us, delivering is just as important as selling.

One of our family team will deliver and install your furniture in the room of your choice. Where you planned your new wardrobes to go might change once we get them up and in? That’s fine with us. We know how to negotiate staircases without knocking chunks out of your dado rail, door architraves and walls. And our guys always wipe their feet… it’s not down to any cultural training, but it is most certainly a mark of respect!

Aftersales care…

Should you have any problems, however small, let us know. Maybe someone has caused some accidental damage, or a tabletop has had a hard life in a family home and scratches have appeared from nowhere. We have children too! Don’t ignore it, we can most likely help you put it right.
